@DrJohnCosgrove Plan ahead if possible. You’re likely to get more out of your 10 mins if you’ve thought through your concerns.
@DrJohnCosgrove Prioritise. If you want to consider one aspect in detail, don’t be distracted by other items
@DrJohnCosgrove Triangulate. Consult friends and family first. Even if they don’t have the answer, they may give useful advice.
@DrJohnCosgrove Flatter! If you want something in particular, make that clear – but flatter your GP: let him assess & advise!
@DrJohnCosgrove Support. Do accompany your friend/family member; but the doctor may want to listen more to the patient.
@DrJohnCosgrove Agenda. Say early why you’ve come. Your doctor may’ve invited you in but can’t know you’ve come 4 sthing else.
@DrJohnCosgrove Check-up. Regular medication? your doctor will want to see you to check it’s OK for you. Allow time for this.

@StuartBerry1 #10minsGPguide we thought that if patients could write down a list if what they wanted to achieve , they could prioritise their needs
@StuartBerry1 Patients may then appreciate the need for 20 mins of appointments to work through their list – ok to come back
@StuartBerry1 #10minsGPguide We have a #depressionToolkit that patients could look at before their GP consultation – explains what’s on offer & PHQ9
@StuartBerry1 @nursemaiden : perhaps a notice in waiting room? Ask to book double appointment if think need >10mins?
#10minsGPguide
@StuartBerry1 @drjohnbye : I mean that some just seem completely oblivious to it. People often need >10m, if so they get it? #10minsGPguide

@StuartBerry1 @selfcarerules I am very pro #selfcare what would you include in a #10minsGPguide to read before the doctor family doc appointment(Fri, 18 May 2012 06:53:41 +0100)

@DrJohnCosgrove IME doubles are less efficient: req’d by worried well, dare I say. Wld still encourage tho found very useful for consultation with patient and carer, esp if dementia a problem? #10minsGPguide

@drjohnbye : I think if I could change one thing it would be that patients know their appt is 10 minutes long. #10minsGPguide
@AseemRahman Patients-If you arrive late, expect a shorter consultation. Not fair to make others after you wait)
@eczemasupport essential to leave doc with written info – my memory of even ten minutes of info is faulty #10minsGPguide

    Your doctor will be very interested to learn what you think is going on, reflect on what you think the problem is and share it with your doctor.

    We discuss this on the Pain Toolkit patient workshops http://www.paintoolkit.org/assets/downloads/PTK_Health_Patients.pdf – preparing for GP / HCP Appts
